Urban Beekeeping: #35 Late Summer Inspection, Preparing the Beehive for Winter.

I open a beehive, teach you how to quickly remove bees from the inner and outer cover, smoke them, and show you how to prop the top of the hive for good ventilation, I also teach you about some basic beekeeping tools and how to remove a frame for inspection. I show some warped wax foundation and how to cut apart frames that are stuck together. I complain about Dadant Beekeeping Supplies and why I want to order from another supplier.

@dlion98 And, some of the frames are crooked, AND I had to send back a whole shipment of super walls/ hive body parts because they didn’t even fit together properly and then had a ridge on the bottom… so frustrating! ?

@dlion98 Thanks! I am definitely going to change for my next batch of supplies. I made 80 billion frames from Dadant and all of the wax foundations are bowed or warped, so you know the comb will touch once it is drawn out. That is always a mess and often kills the babies! I HATE THAT. Bee space should? be the #1 priority in the hive and I keep having issues. Maybe I should just try foundations from another place, I think the Dadant ones are just too long for the frame

I use either walter Kelleys or betterbee for my supplies. I find that the prices are more reasonable and I? get fewer problem pieces from them.

@avesterfelt good idea! I always manage to make a big mess when I just pull it out like a klutz! I am asking for a robbing scenario with that! Thanks!?

Try using an old bread knife to cut the bur comb or bridge comb, works great!? Also have always had great sucess with supplies from Brushy Mountain.
